Q. Should I eat dry cereal like Cheerios instead of crisps and other junk food?
A. Dry cereal (low fat) will definitely have less calories than junk food. Another low calorie snack is air popped pop corn, low fat flavored rice crackers, wasabi dried peas, pretzels, rice cakes with some sort of savory spread or the flavored rice cakes. If you can get away from just eating dry snacks you could also add some low fat cheese, cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs, vegetable sticks with hummus or other low calorie dips.
Make sure that you don't end up eating more of these foods because they are lower in calories. What you might want to do is get yourself a calorie counter book (or online at somewhere like Calorie King) and write a list of all the foods you usually eat so that you can work out your daily calorie intake. You can also go online to see what your ideal weight loss calorie intake should be.
Here is a link to one of those calculators:

If you make these changes, little by little, you will start noticing results.
Weight loss is all about calories in versus calories out! So make sure you add exercise to your new weight loss plan as well. If you don't want to join an expensive gym and don't have a lot of equipment, why not buy yourself a few workout dvds to get you kick started. These are great because it is like having a personal trainer in the comfort of your own home.
